Hard puzzles on this site typically sit in the high twenties for clue count. Early in the solve you may place only a handful of digits. That is normal: the information is in the candidate pattern, not in a crowded board.
Expect to use hidden singles in boxes that look empty, and to lock a digit to two cells before you can finish the unit. If notes are messy, erase and rebuild one box at a time rather than guessing.
A steady Hard solving process
1) Fill every obvious single. 2) Mark remaining candidates. 3) Hunt for a digit that appears as a candidate in only one cell of a unit. 4) After each placement, re-scan peers — one new given often unlocks a chain.
Sudoku Learn still guarantees a unique solution. A conflict (two of the same digit in a unit) means an earlier placement was wrong, not that the puzzle is broken. The mistake counter highlights conflicts so you can back up.

Hard-level tips
- Do not chase empty regions first — finish the units where candidates are already tight.
- If the same two digits occupy two cells in a unit (a naked pair), those digits cannot appear elsewhere in that unit.
- Take a short break before using a hint; Hard puzzles often unlock after one fresh scan.
